Verdura Resort, a Rocco Forte hotel, is a prestigious and well-established gem, offering fabulous facilities, exceptional service and access to one of the most beautiful and culturally rich areas of Sicily. The superb resort is located on the southern coast of Sicily, close to the lovely seaside town of Sciacca and set in rolling countryside giving way to a private beach. The hotel itself is mostly housed in carefully placed separate buildings, all with modern touches and refurbished with local materials.

The resort boasts a beautiful 60m, two-tier infinity pool, six tennis courts, a kid’s club and an extensive 4000m2 spa in addition to the two Kyle Phillips’s designed 18-hole championship golf courses, and further 9-hole course.

There are four fabulous restaurants offering a range of dining options. Try Liolà, a trattoria style restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine with a Sicilian flavour, accompanied by beautiful views of the sea from its terrace. There is also restaurant Amare (open in high season), with its reputation for offering the finest of seafood – perfect for a special or romantic dinner.

All of the luxuriously comfortable bedrooms are modern and stylishly decorated featuring walk-in showers and breathtaking sea views from each private furnished terrace or balcony. All this and you’re within easy reach of a beautiful stretch of the Sicilian coastline, where you’ll find a range of golden beaches and hidden coves. You can also drive to the outstanding Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest examples of greater Greek art and architecture anywhere in the Mediterranean.

About the Local Area

ABOUT AREA

Sciacca is a laid-back town offering stunning views over the Mediterranean. Founded in the 5th century, the town is famous for its thermal spas with allegedly healing waters where even to this day, tourists from all over Italy come to treat their ailments. The town’s medieval quarter is noteworthy with the main street of Corso Vittorio Emanuele and the Piazza Scandaliato well worth a visit.

LOCAL BEACHES

San Leone
This is the most popular beach of the region. It is sandy with a mixture of free beach areas interspersed with those used by restaurants, hiring out sunloungers and parasols. In the evening this can be quite a lively area.

Punta Bianca
Just a 15-minute drive from Agrigento the stunning white marlstone cliffs form a natural staircase, known as the Scala dei Turchi (Turkish Steps) to a beach of fine sand interspersed with rocky areas where the water is crystal clear.

Fiumenaro
A quiet beach with very few services.

FESTIVALS

Festa di San Calògero - July
A week long festival celebrating Saint Calògero who saved Agrigento from the plague.

THINGS TO SEE & DO

Valle dei Templi, Agrigento
The Valle dei Templi holds some of Sicily’s most impressive Greek ruins and some of the best preserved ancient Greek temples in the world. This UNESCO World Heritage Site protects the ruins of the ancient city of Akragas including the ‘must see’ Tempio della Concordia, a remarkably intact temple constructed in 430 BC.

Villa Romana del Casale, Piazza Armerina
The most remarkable Roman ruins in Sicily and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this grandiose 4th century Roman villa is home to one of the finest floor mosaics in existence.
