An impeccable colonial style boutique mansion set in luxurious gardens

In this English colonial style, luxury hotel you’ll find a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere combined with impeccable hospitality – yet the highlights of the lively town of Taormina are just a stone’s throw away. Designed in 1908 by the English architect Robert Charles Ashbee, this historic villa seamlessly blends features from Sicilian architecture with the style and ethos of the Arts and Crafts movement for which Ashbee was a key exponent.

The villa is surrounded by a beautiful park with citrus trees, water features, an infinity swimming pool and truly stunning panoramic views overlooking the Sicilian coastline out across the sea towards Calabria on mainland Italy. Each bedroom is attentively furnished with exclusive refined furniture and is glamorously decorated.

The hotel’s fine dining restaurant St George offers delightful Mediterranean dishes inspired by mouth-watering seasonal produce and local specialities. Reservations can be made for the elegant dining room or the outdoor terrace, both enjoying fabulous sea views. Daytime lunch and snacks, as well as refreshing drinks, are served at the Pool Club bar while the Terrace bar is the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the sea, cocktail in hand.

The Ashbee is the perfect place to relax and unwind in refined surroundings with the attractions of Taormina close at hand. A cable car to the beach is just a few minutes’ walk away, as is the Teatro Greco, as well as Corso Umberto, where you can join the passeggiata (evening stroll) in one of the town’s most famous streets.

About the Local Area

Dating back to 4th century BC, the town of Taormina offers an eclectic mix of the old and the new. A chic resort, though unashamedly touristy, it is arguably the most enchanting town in Sicily. Many charms include, beautiful restored medieval buildings on winding streets, the famous passeggiata along Corso Umberto and the stunning Greek theatre with spectacular views across the Gulf of Naxos and an impressive backdrop of Mount Etna.

Isola Bella Beach
The most famous of Taormina’s beaches and one of the prettiest of coves, Isola Bella Beach is connected to the little island of the same name by a thin strip of sand. Offering panoramic views and crystal clear water, this very popular, pebbly beach is connected to the town by cable car (or some 300 steps) and has sunloungers and parasols for hire.

Just a short cable car ride down from the town of Taormina, Mazzarò is a pebbly cove with ample sunloungers and parasols for hire.

Giardini Naxos
Just south of Taormina, this beautiful and popular bay of white sand with some pebbly sections is the largest stretch of beach in the area. There’s a good range of facilities with sunloungers, parasols for hire, water sports, beach bars and restaurants.

Taormina Film Fest - June
A six-day festival of film screenings and press conferences held at the Greek Theatre.

Taormina Arte – July & August
A festival of live dance, theatre and opera set in the Greek Theatre.

Corso Umberto
Take an evening stroll along the medieval Corso Umberto, a pedestrianised avenue lined with exclusive designer boutiques, antique shops and luxury jewellers.

Greek Theatre
The Teatro Greco is Taormina’s leading attraction. Built in the 3rd century BC, this stunning Greek theatre offers a picturesque setting with views across the Gulf of Naxos and a backdrop of Mount Etna. Each summer the theatre is used as a venue for an impressive schedule of events; from rock concerts to opera as well as an annual film festival.

Mount Etna
Etna, which is the largest active volcano in Europe, erupts frequently and a tour up to the crater is a must for any tourist visiting the island.
