A converted Baroque castle making a boutique property with private section of beach

This boutique hotel is housed in a converted baroque castle dating back to the end of the XVII century, and is truly unique. Combining historic elegance with modern comfort, it exudes character, warmth and charm. With cobbled pathways, ancient archways and lush Mediterranean gardens, you can relax by the enormous swimming pool or soak up the sunshine on the private beach where views of the majestic Mount Etna are simply sublime. The spacious bedrooms, scattered throughout the park, are all beautifully appointed, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere with great attention to detail and comfort. Each has its own shaded terrace opening onto the tranquil castle grounds. The hotel’s restaurant, The Mastri Flavetta, combines passion and sophistication with local culinary tradition to bring you exquisite dishes made from the freshest produce, wherever possible from the local market or grown in the hotel’s own gardens.

In the summer months enjoy dining al fresco in the gazebo restaurant, Acquicella. For some indulgence, visit Aquae Leonis, the hotel’s excellent spa. The old wine cellar, complete with wine press, has been converted into a comfortable lounge bar, al Palmento, serving a superior selection of Sicilian wines including the rich reds made on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna. On warmer evenings the garden lounge bar is the perfect place to relax with an aperitivo.

This family-run hotel is the perfect place to relax and unwind with the charms of Taormina close by, as well as three natural parks: Mount Etna, the Alcantara Gorges and the Nebrodi National Park.

About the Local Area

ABOUT AREA

A laid back agricultural town on the Alcantara plains, surrounded by lush vegetation and citrus groves. Calatabiano is watched over by the dominating Arab Norman Castle with its ancient city walls and village.

LOCAL BEACHES

Giardini Naxos
This beautiful and popular bay of white sand with some pebbly sections is the largest stretch of beach in the area. There’s a good range of facilities with sun loungers, parasols for hire, watersports, beach bars and restaurants.

Isola Bella Beach
The most famous of nearby Taormina’s beaches and one of the prettiest of coves, Isola Bella Beach is connected to the little island of the same name by a thin strip of sand. Offering panoramic views and crystal clear water, this very popular, pebbly beach is connected to the town by cable car (or some 300 steps) and has sun loungers and parasols for hire.

Mazzarò
Just a short cable-car ride down from the town of Taormina, Mazzarò is a pebbly cove with ample sun loungers and parasols for hire.

Aci Trezza

Aci Trezza is a little seaside town with a couple of small streets, and rocky islands/outcrops - you can hire a canoe or a pedalo to explore. In the summer months there are a few bars along the waterfront, and you can get breakfast, and also watch the sunset over the water in the evening. The car park is a bit on the small side, however there is a regular bus from Catania.
