Sitting right next to the sea on the south east coast of the island, Casa Marino is a traditional three-bedroom holiday home offering a wonderfully peaceful base from which to explore this excellent part of Sicily.

The house itself offers a lovely traditional Sicilian style with modern touches, and the panoramic terrace is a wonderful spot to enjoy al fresco dining all whilst absorbing the refreshing sea air. The lounge, kitchen and dining areas are presented in part open-plan fashion, and the three bedrooms adopt a comfortable yet fresh feel. 

From Casa Marino you are only 200m from the small, sleepy village of Calabernado with its handful of local restaurants and amenities, or, you can head 8km inland to the beautiful town of Noto (a UNESCO World Heritage site) where there’s an abundance of stunning baroque architecture to peruse and admire. If it’s a beach day you crave, you are just 4km from Lido di Noto, where you will find a large expanse of inviting sands to rest up on.

ABOUT AREA

Noto is a little jewel of Sicilian Baroque. UNESCO heritage site since 2002, the city was entirely rebuilt after 1693’s earthquake in a late Roman Baroque style, with wide parallel streets that run from east to west to be lit by the sun from sunrise to sunset. Three big stunning churches with their staircases overlook the three squares of Piazza Immacolata, Piazza Municipio and Piazza XVI Maggio.

LOCAL BEACHES

Vendicari, Noto
In the heart of Vendicari Nature Reserve lies an 8km stretch of golden sand dunes, lagoons, cliffs and hidden bays. There are no sun loungers, bars or water sports and no crowds. A truly wonderful place to swim and well-suited to families but be sure to take anything you might need including water with you.

Marina di Modica
Here you will find a beautiful sandy beach which is great for swimming, and many sand dunes. In the high season there are many activities restaurants, cafes, shops and ice-cream parlours.

Fontane Bianche
The beach of Fontane Bianche, about 15 km from the centre of the city, is named after the many natural spring water found in the area. The beach is a long stretch of fine sand surrounded by luxuriant vegetation and a very popular tourist hotspot.

FESTIVALS

Infiorata di Noto is one of the most impressive exhibitions of the art of decoration with flowers. During the third weekend of May, every year, several artists work to create carpets and pictures made of flowers along Via Corrado Nicolaci. The breath-taking show includes the creation of about 30 paintings that revolve around a different theme each year.

THINGS TO SEE & DO

Val di Noto
Drive around the late Baroque towns of the Val di Noto. The valley holds a series of picturesque towns composed almost entirely of Baroque churches, palaces and house - a must see for architectural and historical enthusiasts.

Cavagrande del Cassibile
Located few kilometres from the little town of Avola, Cavagrande del Cassibile it’s a huge nature reserve that surrounds the canyon formed by the little Cassibile river. The Canyon is about 10 Km long and has steep stone walls and fresh little lakes located at the base, where it is possible to have a bath.

Mulino ad Acqua – Museo Cavallo d’Ispica
A beautiful original watermill exhibit from the early 18th century - open every day and night visits are also available to pre-book.
