We discuss all of the benefits and rewards of embarking on a holiday to the island of Sicily during October.
Looking to pay a visit to Sicily but want to avoid the holiday crowds of high season? You have a number of options when it comes to choosing a quieter period to holiday in Sicily, but you'll struggle to find a month which ticks as many boxes as October does, promising a diverse and rewarding time on the island with countless opportunities.
There are several reasons why we'd recommend a holiday to Sicily in October, from the more bearable temperatures to the quieter the cities to name but a few. While high season departs, many of the factors which make Sicily such a glorious summer holiday destination do not, some of which we have listed below to help convince you further! So, without further delay, here's some reasons to visit and things to do in Sicily in October...
The heat drops
While many will flock to the island in search of blazing heat which they can enjoy around the pool or on the beach, the high temperatures experienced between June and September can be quite debilitating when it comes to hoping for some exploration further afield. If you're the type who isn't all for relaxing in the sun on the sand, the weather in Sicily in October may well present the perfect time for you to visit the island. The lower temperatures experienced in October are far less draining, making day trips and city exploration much more bearable. While the temperatures do drop, you'll still enjoy average highs of around 25 degrees, ensuring a trip to the beach or a laze around the pool still won't be out of the question.

Take to the cities
Locals and tourists alike prefer to escape the cities during the intense heat of the summer, but they'll still be crowded during the high season, making them a slightly uncomfortable experience to explore. Sicily is blessed by countless beautiful and incredible cities, so it is best to absorb them in as much comfort as possible. Whether you opt for Palermo, Modica, Syracuse or Noto during your October escape, you'll enjoy all of their culture, history and architecture without the need to find shade and refreshment every five minutes!
Explore the great outdoors
Sicily in October offers very pleasant temperatures for some outdoor exploration and activities, introducing you to a whole other side of Sicily's character. There are numerous ways to get active across the island, from a round of golf or a cycling route, to beach sports or even hiking up Mount Etna and around the surrounding landscapes.

Escape the crowds
It may well be an obvious attraction, but avoiding the primary holiday rush experienced in July and August will allow you to enjoy much less crowded beaches, properties, cities and historical sites. While there are endless benefits of visiting Sicily during the heart of the summer, for those after a little more peace and quiet, October is the ideal time to head off and see the island, away from the summer crowds.
