Our top pick of Sicilian hotels, ideal for honeymooners...

With honeymoons being an important part of a couple’s start of their new life together, choosing a destination can be exciting (or perhaps a little tiring), as there are so many options available. If you’ve decided that the stunning Italian island of Sicily has made the final cut, then this post is ideal. In our attempt to make the next part – choosing your accommodation – a little bit easier, here is our personal selection of top hotels, helping you decide where to stay in Sicily during your first vacation as a married couple.

1. 5* The Ashbee Hotel, Taormina

With luxurious gardens boasting citrus trees and water features, elegant guestrooms, an infinity pool and a view to die for, the 5* Ashbee Hotel exudes an air of true grandeur. It’s also only a stone’s throw away from the town of Taormina and its beautiful beaches, so whether you choose to explore the city’s medieval buildings and meandering streets, the stunning Isola Bella beach or kick back and relax in the splendour of the hotel grounds, you’re sure to have a magnificent time.

2. 4* Hotel Villa Angela, Taormina

A small boutique hotel on the hillside with spectacular views of Mount Etna, Villa Angela is an intimate and romantic property, ideal for honeymooners. Paying tribute to local craftsmanship, the hotel itself is made from local stone, and chestnut furniture and ceramic decorations can be found inside. Just a 15 minute walk from Taormina; it’s a delightful location from which to explore the historic town and an idyllic retreat after a day at the beach or look round the shops. The most beautiful aspect of this hotel is its panoramic view, which is truly breath-taking. Stretching right across the Ionic Riviera all the way to Mount Etna, in your hillside sanctuary you’ll certainly feel like the king and queen of the castle when staying here.

3. 5* Grand Hotel Villa Igiea – Palermo

Situated close to the capital city of Palermo, Grand Hotel Villa Igiea is ideal for those craving a luxurious and rather grand honeymoon. Overlooking the marina and Gulf of Palermo, this magnificent hotel stays true to its past, with an intricate Art Nouveau décor portrayed with rich, bold colours. A shuttle from the hotel will take you to the city, just 3km away, where you can admire the baroque style buildings or shop until your heart’s content, or you can relax by the pool and appreciate the views across the marina. Lush green gardens compliment the hotel’s setting, making it overall, a lovely helping of honeymoon grandeur.

4. 5* Verdura Resort – Sciacca

If you’re looking for a rather exclusive honeymoon getaway with top class facilities, a private beach and golf course, Verdura Resort is an ideal choice. The hotel boasts a 60m infinity pool, where you can relax and enjoy the views out to sea, then spend an evening sampling exquisite Sicilian cuisine at one of the four on site restaurants. An array of activities are available at the hotel to keep you occupied such as water sports, wine tasting and of course golf, but if you decide to explore the local area, you’re just 14km from the town of Sciacca, and roughly 48km from the Valley of the Temples, should you wish to explore some stunning ancient Greek ruins.

5. 5* Grand Hotel Minareto – Syracuse

A luxurious waterfront hotel with beautiful views of Syracuse and the magnificent Mount Etna, Grand Hotel Minareto exudes elegance and exclusivity. Situated in the Plemmirio Marine Nature Reserve, any keen divers or snorkelers will be in their element when they discover the rich underwater world here. Stylish guestrooms with private balconies look out upon swathes of lush carob, olive and palm trees, which give way to hidden coves with crystal clear waters. Why not relax on the roof garden with a refreshing cocktail, or take in the dip in the pool to cool off? Or alternatively, hop on the shuttle service to Syracuse where you can discover the cultural history of the town and the stunning island of Ortigia.

Hopefully we’ve provided quite a few reasons as to why this stunning island is great place to celebrate a honeymoon and given you more of an idea of where to stay in Sicily. If you’re feeling inspired and want to find out more, visit the Sicilian Places website.
