A guide to the best beaches in Sicily on the west of the island, from sandy strips of perfection to incredible coastal scenery.

There’s nothing like escaping on a beach holiday to Sicily. The island boasts some of the finest beaches in Europe, from strips of golden sand backed by historical towns, to rocky coves boasting the bluest of blue water. We continue our coastal journey around Sicily and focus on the beaches in the west of the island, picking out our favourite spots for some indulgence amid the sun, sand and sea…

Best Beaches in Sicily Part 4 – The West

1. San Vito Lo Capo, Trapani

Sand | Good facilities

The small town of San Vito Lo Capo is flanked by incredible mountains and fronted by a mesmerising three-kilometre strip of golden sand. The water here is as blue as anywhere else on the island, inviting those craving a refreshing dip, while others will happily doze off on the soft sand with the light ripple of the waves as their soundtrack.

2. Scopello, Trapani

Mainly rocky | Some facilities

A tiny village on the coast in the Trapani region, Scopello is recognised as the home of one of the finest and most picturesque beaches in Sicily. Though the beach doesn’t boast the long strips of soft sand and top facilities of other beaches on the island, it is the cacophony of colours in the water and the drama of the jutting rocky outcrops which define this stunning location.

3. Marinella di Selinunte, Selinunte

Sand | Good facilities

Located a short hop from one of the most remarkable historical sites in Sicily, the Temples of Selinunte, Marinella di Selinunte provides some welcoming respite from the historical exploration typically experienced in this part of Sicily. Swap temples for sand here, enjoying a prime location beside the town for the inevitable moment you crave some Sicilian food in a local eatery.
